From the outside, Excel Academy appears to be like any other school; however, after spending several minutes inside, you realize that Excel Academy is unlike any other school. In fact, referring to Excel Academy as a school seems to mislabel the organization. Upon entering the school, a casual observer realizes that this is not an ordinary school, but a place of belonging regardless of ethnicity, social status or label assigned by the outside world. Students are treated with love, dignity, and respect. This approach is not an easy feat. Students at Excel Academy are students that have struggled in the traditional educational institution. Oftentimes, students exhibit severe behaviors to the extent that learning becomes impossible. This inability to learn coupled with a lack of emotional coping mechanisms can give students the label of unteachable, but not at Excel Academy. With the collaborative efforts of the student's entire team, strengths are identified and maximized providing a safe environment where students are able to address deficits and develop skills for educational and community success. Excel Academy's comprehensive approach at learning utilizes a dual method emphasizing education while addressing mental and behavioral healthcare needs.
