|  Located in Newark, Ohio, Excel Academy is a private, not-for-profit organization providing educational, mental health, and behavioral health care to children and adolescents referred by public school districts and community health providers. Providing services for 140 students from nine counties, a multidisciplinary team of educators and clinical staff address the education, mental and behavioral health of each student. Over ninety-percent of our students have some form of mental health diagnosis that has prevented them from excelling in the traditional public school. While at Excel Academy, students will not only receive classroom education, but also be provided with the tools and supports necessary to return and reacclimate back into the public school system or a less restrictive community setting becoming peaceful contributing members of our communities.
Founded in 1994, Excel Academy began as a summer tutoring program eventually transitioning to a full school day. The revolutionary approach of interacting with the students used by teachers at Excel Academy attracted students and enrollment grew. Excel Academy has grown from a store front on Route 79 in Heath where only a handful of students were served to a school building in downtown Newark. Now in our 16th year, Excel Academy serves the children and adolescents from ten counties and forty-three school districts. The most recent and notable changes at Excel Academy include the addition of a Day Treatment Program as well as a Vocational Program. Throughout all of the changes that growth has brought our organization, Excel Academy continues to be a place where those who are different can open a door and find a world where they are accepted and loved, where they are given the time, the tools and the encouragement to believe in themselves and find success both in and out of the classroom.
